My name is Mackenzie Butler, and I am a twenty year old History major at UC Santa Barbara. Originally from Southern California, I transferred from Mt. San Jacinto college in 2019 with an Associate of Arts in both History and Liberal Studies as a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and continued placement on the President’s Honor List. On my current campus, I am a student of the Engaging Humanities Fellowship and the 2019 recipient of the William E. Nida Scholarship. My research interests are 19th and 20th century American women’s history and the study of sexuality and gender. Currently, my work revolves around gender and sexual expectations of American youth during the Cold War Era and will continue in my Senior Honors Thesis this year. Upon my graduation in 2021, I plan to attend graduate school and obtain a PhD with an emphasis on Southern Women’s history.
When I’m not in the classroom or the library, I enjoy reading, hiking, baking, and making #unsilencedarchives posts on my instagram.
